Why Are Greenhouse Gases Now a Problem?

The past 150 years, since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, human activity has led to significant increase in the levels of greenhouse gases that have been emitted into the atmosphere. In fact during this period the atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide emissions have increased by as much as 35% as a result of burning fossil fuels and deforestation.  This has been largely due to the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas to provide power for electricity, heating and transportation throughout the world.   The above activity has led to increases in greenhouse gases that are now recorded to be at levels which are considerably higher than they have been for at least 800,000 years.
