Natural Disasters?
There is an increase in global temperatures all over the world and many of us will experience warmer winters and hotter summers that are likely to lead to sever weather events. These disasters might be classed as natural but it is due to human activity that it happens so, in fact, they are more man-made disasters than anything. There is already evidence of precipitation, avalanches, wind storms and flooding in some parts of the world as well as hurricanes and droughts in many other regions.
History
- In October 2005, an earthquake in Pakistan was measured at 7.6 on the rictor scale, this disaster caused injury or death to around 40,000 people.
- Â In 2004, a heatwave spread across Europe and surprisingly killed more than 35,000 people.
- In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck America and caused devastation across the country; approximately 1300 people were killed and more than $100 billion damage was clocked up.
Over the past 30 years, scientists have seen a dramatic increase in the number of category four and five hurricanes around the world and in many cases these have been linked back to the recent oceanic warming due to the climate change.
