Climate Change and Health

Increase

There is a growing evidence to say that the global climate is changing and that these changes will affect people's health and well being. Even the animal kingdom will suffer health wise if the climate continues to rise; animals depend on food and water, freedom and stability. There is an increased amount of humankind activities which is enabling the concentration of greenhouse gases to take over.

Health risks

In the UK, food poisoning is set to become a regular illness in the summers due to warmer temperatures, it is estimated that around 10,000 extra cases of salmonella will occur each year. Believe it or not but the change in climate is also going to have an effect on birth rates, sperm counts, outbreaks in pneumonia, flu and bronchitis.

In other regions due to the temperature increase, scientists can predict that there will be an increase of certain diseases such as malaria, Dengue fever, Cholera and Lyme's disease. Malaria is one of the worlds most deadliest diseases, because warming promotes a good breeding ground, weather events can precipitate large outbreaks. Because of the rise of the temperature in the water, the bacteria, vibrio cholera would become more evident and may pose a serious health risk, to add to that, because of the height increase of the water, the development of the larval mosquito has also increased which causes the Dengue fever. If the temperature rises, it suggests a habitable breeding ground for ticks, this can cause Lyme's disease which can also pose a serious health problem. It was calculated that around 150,000 deaths occurred around the world in the year 2000 due to these diseases.
